SHOHAM
SHOHAM (Heb. שֹׁהַם, "Onyx"), town in central Israel. The town is located near Ben-Gurion Airport, halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. It was founded in 1993 and is under constant expansion, with an area of 5.2 sq. mi (13.5 sq. km.) and a 2002 population of 15,600. Its growth rate is one of the highest in Israel – 7% a year. The development of the town has been characterized by emphasis on environmental issues. It has around 60 acres of parkland utilizing a special water-saving system for watering. Every year Shoham hosts an Arts Festival during Sukkot and an International Mountain Bike Race in memory of yitzhak rabin , late prime minister of Israel. -WEBSITE: www.shoham.muni.il .
